Supporting local nonprofits

Monday, August 29, 2022

The Putnam County Community Foundation’s work to support the local nonprofit community is especially meaningful to me. I’ve spent my career in the nonprofit sector in a variety of roles, serving a number of agencies in different communities and areas of work. Through all of that, I’ve yet to find a nonprofit organization that doesn’t benefit from sharing resources with one another. That is precisely the goal of the Putnam-Montgomery Nonprofit Learning Series.

Through this educational series, the Community Foundation brings subject area experts into our community to share tips, tricks and best practices for nonprofit organizations. These workshops, led by local experts, are designed to inspire, educate and connect our nonprofit employees, board members, volunteers and other interested community members.

Our next workshop in the 2022 series is on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Inn at Depauw in Greencastle. Presenter Susan Decker will discuss the importance of a nonprofit board’s fiduciary responsibility and will share the most important financial questions to ask as a board member.

Sarah Stone

Susan Decker serves as a senior governance consultant with BoardSource, a Washington, D.C., based nonprofit governance sector leadership organization. Over the past nearly three decades, Susan Decker has become a trusted partner to nonprofit organizations, helping to guide and support thousands of nonprofit boards across a spectrum of leadership initiatives, such as strengthening essential governance practices that ensure proper oversight and accountability. Just as important, she has helped organizations cultivate a culture of leadership and ongoing development that challenges individuals to continuously strive for stronger performance and better outcomes. We are so excited to share Susan’s expertise with our community.

Susan will lead the remaining two sessions in the 2022 Nonprofit Learning Series, first returning to Greencastle on Oct. 11 to discuss building a culture of philanthropy and then in Crawfordsville on Nov. 8 to inspire nonprofits to harness the power of their boards. Learn more about these sessions and register online at pcfoundation.org/npls.

In addition to the Nonprofit Learning Series, we offer our nonprofits an array of resources, including the opportunity to diversify funding by establishing an endowment and access to GrantStation, a database for grant seekers. We are always looking for ideas and opportunities to best serve our nonprofits. If you have suggestions on future workshops or other ways we can best serve Putnam County, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
